Ramos played in Bilbao just 48 hours after hospital visit | March 18, 2017
“Commitment and character sums up Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and did so once again on Saturday’s 1-2 win against Athletic Club.
However, Ramos’ participation in the fixture had been put very much in doubt by a stomach bug, which saw him admitted to the Sanitas clinic on Thursday but just 48 hours later, he was giving it his all at Estadio San Mames.
The Spaniard had barely been able to train all week due to a gastric infection, which not only disrupted his training but also his eating.
In other circumstances, Ramos may have been tempted to sit the fixture out but given that it was a tough trip to San Mames and with the side already without Pepe and Varane, who were nonetheless still called up by their national teams, he opted to play through the pain.It isn’t the first time that Ramos has shown such commitment for Real either. Last season, he played many games with a debilitating shoulder problem that he struggled to even move on occasion but his willingness to assist the team was above any pain he felt.”
